The Land of the Fanns project is a five year £2.4m Landscape Partnership Scheme that aims to engage the local population in rediscovering, understanding and enjoying the hidden gems of their local landscape. The project was set up to remind the local populations of the fascinating historic legacy that we have around us.
Land of the Fanns worked closely with Essex Gardens Trust and 15 local volunteers to train them to read and record historic landscape features. The end result was a Fifty Fabulous Features Document that the volunteers produced and edited themselves under the guidance of the Essex Gardens Trust .
The Fifty Features document is not only an important tool for planners and local authorities to use in the future, to make them aware of what hidden gems are out there, but also a useful and interesting guide to local features for the general public, schools and libraries and this website is the online edited version in map form.
